Having just tied up our flower exhibition in Nieuwoudtville, I was able to enjoy the beautiful colours that still exist in and around the town… So late in Spring and this can be attributed to the vast amount of rain which they have had- Here are some of the pics:
I just love the birds of the Karoo and on a recent trip to Nieuwoudtville, I took an offroad route through the Koker Book Forest and some adjacent farms… I came across a variety of Namaqualand Birds and was just thrilled to see the diversity during Spring… I spotted beautiful waterfowl- Including the beautiful and scarce African Shell Duck, the Namaqualand Dove, The Stanleys Bustard (I think- A whole flock of them), The Black Korahn (With his distinctive white cheek), The Pale Chanting Goshawk, The Rock Kestrel,Bokmakerie, Red Bishop and the Ostrich were just some of the more spectacular sightings….Here are some pics of the above mentioned birds:
What a great visit from Ron Rutland whom is traveling 41000km through Africa on his way to London on a bike, and hopes to get there in 2015 for the rugby world cup. Ron spent a night with us in Villiersdorp and it was so interesting listening and hearing about this great adventure which lies ahead of him… He is riding with a lot of love and support from all his friends, family and sponsorst and we wish him a safe passage through our beautiful continent.
Ron also rides carrying many messages and for some amazing causes and you can read up about them on his website and follow his route with him online: wwwfatkidonabike.com… Bon voyage Ron and God Bless:
